Earlier today, Senator Mac Schneider and Representatives Kylie Oversen and Joshua Boschee sent a letter to the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office requesting an investigation into a potential violation of the Corrupt Practices Act by the Brighter Future Fund, a “Super PAC” with close ties to the Odney Advertising Agency.
The letter comes after emails were sent yesterday to UND and NDSU college students’ state-issued “.edu” addresses urging them to vote for Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
One of the Corrupt Practices Act states: “No person may use any property belonging to or leased by, any service which is provided to or carried on by, either directly or by contract, the state or any agency, department, bureau, board, commission, or political subdivision thereof, for any political purpose.” (16.1-10-02, Subsection 1)
In their letter to the sheriffs, Schneider, Oversen, and Boschee stated: “[W]e are seriously concerned that this action crosses a line from mere shady campaign tactics to a violation of North Dakota’s Corrupt Practices Act.”
