(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party Chairman Bob Valeu released the following statement today regarding the findings of the Forum Communications Poll…
“There are glaring problems with the Forum Communications Poll. For starters, pollsters who have never done political polling conducted the poll. And, frankly it shows. This is not a poll of likely voters; the pollsters used a 1-10 scale to determine the likelihood of a person voting and then considered someone who rated a 5 out of 10 as a likely voter, which is little better than a coin toss. The idea that someone who is as likely as getting tails on a coin toss is a likely voter is laughable. In addition, the poll under-sampled Democrats and voters age 66 and older, while over-sampling voters under age 30.
“But if you need any further proof of how flawed this poll is look at the cross-tabs on the U.S. House race. According to the poll, Kevin Cramer leads George Sinner by 24 points in Cass County (Fargo), by only two points in Burleigh County (Bismarck), and is losing by 29 points in Stark County (Dickinson). Any political observer who knows North Dakota, and understands the demographic and political make-up of these three counties, would seriously doubt these numbers.
“For the second election cycle in a row, the Forum has a habit of wanting their polling to match their endorsements. North Dakotans should remember that at this point in 2012 the Forum poll had Heidi Heitkamp trailing Rick Berg by 10 points. Heitkamp won.
“Our recent internal polls show the congressional race, along with the Agriculture Commissioner and Tax Commissioner races are dead heats.
“The bottom-line is the Forum failed.”
