Chairman Valeu’s statement on the passing of former party chairman Larry Erickson

(BISMARCK, ND – JULY 16, 2014) – North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party chairman Bob Valeu released the following statement today on the passing of long-time party leader, Larry Erickson, who died last week at the age of 83.

“With the passing of Larry Erickson the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party has lost one of its most dedicated, thoughtful, and colorful leaders. Our party’s family extends our heartfelt sympathies to Larry’s wife, Claryce, and their family.

“Larry was present at the creation when the Democratic Party merged with the Non-Partisan League. He was in the trenches from that moment on. I was privileged to work with Larry when he was party chairman and I was party executive director during the late 1960s. I regarded him as mentor then and he was a friend throughout the years.

“Larry was a Democrat through and through but he was always a North Dakotan first and no one, not even Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter, could walk away from meeting Larry and not know that his love for North Dakota was a as deep as his heart was big. He was one of a kind who lived a long full life and will be terribly missed.”
