(BISMARCK, ND) – District 47 Democrats have endorsed Brad Bergstad for the North Dakota State Senate.
Bergstad is a contract coordinator for Basin Electric’s Dakota Gasification Company. He’s been with the company for 17 years. Bergstad earned a degree in Power Plant Technology from Bismarck State College. He lives in Bismarck with his wife, Renee Stromme, and their four children. Bergstad released the following statement:
“I believe the Legislature has lost touch with reality. District 47 is changing. We have many young families concerned about childcare and early childhood education, but the Republican Supermajority failed to address these issues in the 2013 session. I work in the energy industry so I know how important it is to maintain a strong infrastructure. I’m a hunter and fisherman so I know we can balance development with protecting our land and wildlife. The Republican Supermajority dropped the ball on these issues, too.
“The Republican Supermajority seemed to only have two priorities in 2013 legislative session: Warehousing our surplus and pushing divisive social legislation.
“The last legislative session convinced me that we need more young people and political balance in the Legislature. My opponent has been in the Senate since 1999. I thank him for his service but, after 15 years, I think it’s time to elect someone else who is in better touch with the needs of our growing community. As a husband, father, and energy industry worker, I feel I can better represent the people of District 47 in the North Dakota Senate.”
