GRAND FORKS, ND – MARCH 4, 2014 – Grand Forks attorney Kiara Kraus-Parr announced today that she is seeking the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party endorsement for Attorney General. Kraus-Parr is the founder of Kraus-Parr, PLLC and an adjunct lecturer at the University of North Dakota School of Law. She made her announcement at stops in Grand Forks and Fargo.
“North Dakota is an amazing state and community. I know, first-hand, that there is a wealth of opportunities here. Perhaps the finest opportunity before our state is our state’s development and the potential for greatness that coincides with that growth. However, with such rapid growth comes a certain amount of growing pains. North Dakotans need active and balanced leadership to help guide our state’s rapid growth and to ease our growing pains.
“Crime is an outgrowth of development and it’s eating away at our quality of life. There are not enough police officers or judges to deal with increasing crime rates. The federal government has designated Williams County as a high drug trafficking area. Our congressional delegation is pleading with federal authorities to send agents to North Dakota. Women are being counseled by their employers not to be alone while at work. You can’t turn on the news anymore without hearing a story about women being trafficked for sex. Meanwhile, while crime is going up, radioactive materials are being dumped in western North Dakota.
“The Attorney General is the state’s top law enforcement officer, but it is clear that after 14 years on the job, he has become complacent. The voters should ask the question: What has he been doing lately?
“After 14 years, it’s time for a fresh perspective and new energy in the Attorney General’s office. It’s time to return to basics: To crack down on criminals and those who are moving into our state to traffic drugs and exploit women. To bust polluters who think North Dakota is a dumping ground.
“North Dakota is at a crossroads and our present leadership is not doing nearly enough. North Dakotans expect and deserve more. I want to provide more and I promise to do that as an engaged and energetic Attorney General.”
Kraus-Parr is originally from Wisconsin. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Mississippi, her Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Tennessee, and her Juris Doctorate of Law from the University of North Dakota School of Law. She is married to Mark Jendrysik, Ph.D., who is a professor of Political Science at UND. They make their home in Grand Forks.
North Dakota Democrats will hold their State Convention in Fargo, March 28-30.
